FiberLight Launches $20 Million Fiber-Optic Network in Baltimore
FiberLight held a ribbon cutting ceremony at Baltimore Technology Park to announce the launch of a $20 million 104-mile fully diverse fiber optic network. The new network will augment its existing 123-mile Baltimore network and 299-mile Virginia and D.C. networks by extending the 100% underground optical backbone past the downtown business district to connect the growing cities of Laurel, Columbia, Elkridge and Greenbelt, while providing greater diversity to the region.
The city of Baltimore is excited about the future economic impact the new fiber optic infrastructure will have for its citizens and businesses. “As a growing business, FiberLight recognizes the need for other businesses to have better access to the cloud, secure storage area networks and data centers such as Baltimore Technology Park,” said Kevin Coyne, Fiber Light’s President and COO. “Just as this network will support the growing needs of the existing businesses in Baltimore and the state, the connectivity and the capabilities that FiberLight is making available now will help bring new business to Maryland and stimulate the local economy.”
